Tilt Chop Seal

December 19th, 2008

While on a trip in Taiwan, we were lucky to visit the Jade Market close to Taipei 101. This market is one of the older markets in the city and represents the rich culture of the East. There are so many remarkable crafted items out of the jade that it was a bit overwhelming.

The history of the Chinese seal is rich. Having a Tilt chop seal created seemed like one of the more practical pieces to purchase. I collaborated directly with the artisan and we came up with the Tilt Studio, Inc. translation in Mandarin. She took the straight translation and put it into a design that suited the studio. As you can see above, the sketch really didn’t look anything like the final product, but it was an amazing learning experience.

I am sure that we will not use this often, but it represents our commitment to the world of art and design both past and present.
