A brilliant Strategic Sales Campaign

August 26th, 2009

As we all know, I am an avid Sigg user. I have converted my whole family, too. Our new hybrid designer, Chris Willet, found this article on Sigg which had me running for the store!  Take a look and be sure to check out your bottle if you use the new or the old Sigg. Personally I just think that this was strategic marketing; get everyone to buy our product, then tell consumers that last years model gives you diseases, but the new one won’t and then the company sells more product.

Sigg Bottles

Below is a synopsis, written by Chris Willet

It seems the fear from multiple scientific and consumer groups that Swiss made Sigg bottles might possibly contain Bisphenol-A, commonly referred to as BPA, are finally coming to life. A letter from Sigg CEO Steve Wasik was released earlier this month addressing the issue regarding their liners and reusable bottles. Although there isn’t any direct evidence linking Sigg bottles to fatal amounts of BPA, the company has decided to discontinue bottle production with the old liner and develop a liner 100% free of any BPA leaching called the “EcoCare liner”. All Sigg bottles bought before August 2008 contain the older liner. Although the news of Sigg discontinuing it’s original liner production isn’t that unexpected, there has yet been any news of an exchange program for their customers to get a new “EcoCare” liner Sigg bottle.
