Helping those with food allergies
Harmful and dangerous food allergies can lead to disastrous situations if not attended to and watched over properly. There are 14 major food allergies, and according to a 2009 Daily Telegraph article, around 40% of children in Britain suffer from some sort of food allergy. This number has tripled in the past decade, and with seven of these food allergies found in everyday processed consumables, a trip to the grocery store or eating out at a restaurant can prove to be an impossibly exhausting task.
With allergen sufferers in mind, we decided to take the initiative by starting a new generation of informed consumers and chefs alike. Taking care to understand global color recognition, pictures, and words that are easily distinguishable by a varying cultures and age groups, Tilt is designing the first ever set of internationally recognizable icons for the allergen sensitive. Eventual plans include having these icons on packaged food items, grocery store products, even in restaurants.
