A sustainable Tilt.

Here at Tilt, we talk a lot about being green and having sustainable practices.  But officially, what are we as an office doing to be more environmentally friendly?  Here’s a look at what we’re already doing and planning to do in the coming months.

What we’re doing already:

• 100% wind powered

• Minimize paper and use only recycled paper products

• Use only natural detergents and cleaning products

• Recycle paper, plastic, glass and metal

• Use low wattage and compact fluorescent light bulbs wherever possible

Things we’re planning to do:

• Compost food and yard waste

• Install solar panels on roof

• Reuse greywater for indoor garden

If you have any other sustainable practices to suggest for us, please leave some comments.

Congratulations on your sustainability awareness and practices! Hip-hip-hurray!

For the up and coming practices, I’ll share my experience with composting. It’s really easy to do. Since you are in the city, however, I would suggest that you should get a compost bin that is lockable, sealable. I had a compost bin that small animals (read: rats) could get into. And boy did they get fed well. I live in the city and decided feeding the rats was not the best or most sustainable practice. So I purchased a new round compost bin that spins to mix the ingredients. It cost about $170. I did order it online because I couldn’t find one locally. I recently saw the same composter at the Takoma Park Co-op but maybe we could convince Mill Valley Farmers’ Market to keep some in stock. Here’s where I bought this composter a couple of years ago. http://www.cleanairgardening.com/tumcombincom.html

Enjoy collecting kitchen scraps and leaves!
