The new Tilt office in London in Dalston Kingland (East London) is absolutely spectacular! Having a space in the Boot Strap Company building is special since it is one of the largest green roofs in the whole of Europe, creating 70% of its energy (and with a building full of artists and designers that is quite a lot of energy) needed! This roof, uses solar photo voltaic (PV) panels that are in the shape of roof tiles and they act as a protector for the actual roof below.
The past two Saturdays, we have attended two lectures / food demos at the Imperial War Museum for the Ministry of Food. These talks were put on by something called “Company of Cooks” and the top of the lectures were based around rationing and real meals eaten during the war time.
Since 2004 we have been working with my Alma Mater, Mercersburg Academy on their Summer & Extended Programs. In 2008 we were given the opportunity to rebrand the camp and we came up with “Mercersburg Summer” as the chosen name. Since then, we have explored tons of different design options and finally landed on a solidified and clever design.
Each week we will highlight a global restaurant, food concept or packaging that is doing something unique and special. Review 1 is here today!
Imagine a world where consumption is based on actual need, not want. What would that be like? Wafu Japanese Restaurant in Australia thinks they have the answer. Our bodies are made (for the most part) to cap themselves off when we have had to much, but our desire to indulge beyond our needs is quite high. Wafu is a premier “guilty free” restaurant in Melbourne and they have started charging people for food waste. This concept is not only clever and direct, but it also makes the consumers refrain from over-indulging or capping themselves off.
You have been invited to listen in to our first Designers, Drinks & Social Change broadcasted presentation! Our small, intimate group meets monthly with 1-2 guest speakers joining us. The purpose is to communicate as designers on a collaborative level and work together to create change.
Tinychat.com will be broadcasted through our blogs (Eric Benson & E. Rachael Baird) and our twitter accounts. If you want to follow it, click here.
Have a drink at your seat to join along and participate with the fun! Eric Benson created our logo inspired by Zima to get the party started.
As you may have seen, the First Lady is making waves when it comes to childhood obesity in her Let’s Move Campaign/Program. She has spun several versions off of this, such as Let’s Move to Let’s Read and now Let’s Move to Schools Campaign that is chef specific and is getting the chefs in the local communities out to work with the kids. Each chef that has pledged to work within a community will be donating their time and their expertise to help educate kids about how to both cook for themselves and to eat healthier over all.
My first friend I met in London (outside of High School and Life before moving here) is Regis Tosetti. Even more than my first friend, Regis is the first Swiss/Londoner I have met to date. A couple of weeks ago I went to Haberdashery London for their design party during design week in London. Regis is clever, entertaining and very well rounded in his style. He has a million unique ideas and is one of the most talented designers I have ever met. It must be the Swiss in him.
On Friday night there is a super Swiss Design show at A Foundation which is on Rochelle School and Club Row in Arnold Circus. Join us and root on Regis!
I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take a game winning shot….and missed. I have failed over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
Ross Ching recently created an incredible video of LA without cars. In order to do this he combined enough still imagery and Photoshop work to really make it come to life. With the average commute in LA taking approx. 29 minutes by car, the 3rd highest in the country for commute time, you can only imagine the amount of pollution that is plaguing the city. I have been to LA recently on business and to drive about 3 miles, it took me an hour and 30 minutes in traffic. Incredible.
