J for Jamie Oliver

May 26th, 2010

On Saturday night for our friends birthday, we went out to Canary Wharf in London to Jamie’s Italian. When we walked in, I have to admit that we were all a little disappointed with the clientele. Ripped jeans, babies crying and casual attire circulated the room… Little did we know about Jamie and his brand, however, so shame on us! Jamie creates affordable dining. From his cookbooks to his JME product line, his work is about feeding the masses and getting everyone to share in the importance of food. Spread food love!

Eric Benson: Designer, Educator and Environmentalist

May 6th, 2010

Two years ago I was reading a blog and ran across Eric Benson’s Re-nourish.com website. I was amazed at his clever verbiage and thoughtful direction for how he focused his site to be both about great design and about the environment. Not the easiest feat, but one of the best opporutnities to highlight the environment being altered by design. I immediately contacted Eric and started to talk to him about how the information on his site could help us out with our PaperRep project. He was more than willing to work with me and to help on this project. I wish everyone were that kind and considerate.

Re-Nourish is an industry based site that really aims to provide quality information about how design can create change. The three partners are thoughtful, creative and considerate. Definitely go to their site… immediately! Click here!

Wednesday, May 5, 2010

The Wind Up Space
12 W. North Avenue
6:30 – 8:30 pm

Tonight is the return of the Baltimore Design Conversation, held every month on the first Wednesday at the Wind Up Space. This go round is being curated by Fred Scharmen and the topic is Streets/Art. Fred has invited guests to look at aspects of public art that occur outside and between the institutions that have traditionally supported art in communities. On hand will be sculptor and performance artist Jonathan Taube; activist, artist, and facilitator Paulo Harris; and street artist, sculptor, and painter Andrew Pisacane.

This will be the first in a two-part look at how public art impacts cities. The second part of this conversation will take place at June’s Baltimore Design Convo to be curated by Ben Stone.
